Nawaz Sharif not betrayed anyone: Pir Sabir Shah
ISLAMABAD, December 12 (Online): PML leader and the former Chief Minister of the NWFP, Pir Sabir Shah has said that Nawaz Sharif has not betrayed anyone by undertaking the deal.
Some members of the Muslim League have accused Nawaz Sharif of betraying them. However, Pir Sabir Shah said that Sharif had not harmed anyone by taking this step.
Talking to BBC, the PML leader said, "Sharif has always rendered sacrifices for the party. If he wanted to betray the party, he would have done it on the very first day when after his take over, General Musharraf tried to convince him till 2 am that if he withdraws from politics and the country, he will not be punished. However, he opted for the difficult path."
Answering a question that whether Nawaz Sharif took him in confidence while making this decision, Shah said, " We were absolutely taken into confidence. Begum Kulsoom Nawaz told us that the health of Nawaz Sharif was deteriorating and he did not receive proper treatment here. She said that they were forcing the government to admit him to the hospital. But they (government) took advantage of the weak position of Nawaz Sharif. Then the government of Saudi Arabia intervened and asked the government to provide treatment facility to him".
Answering another question, he said, "Nawaz Sharif has not committed any betrayal. Those who make such allegation are in fact those traitors who are working since October 11 as a B team of the government for the character assassination of Nawaz Sharif. They know that whenever Nawaz Sharif will come into the arena, he has won over the hearts of the Pakistani people and he can never be ousted from the politics of the country".
Denying the government's claim that the decision was made on the request of Nawaz Sharif for clemency, he said, "This is totally wrong. If Nawaz Sharif has submitted any appeal to them, they should show it to the nation. Instead of asking for taking him abroad for treatment the government should have shifted him to Cardiac Care Centre or Intensive Care Unit of a hospital here. He was instead laying in a barrack and was not allowed treatment facility. So, the Saudi government intervened for help."
