PM directs provincial authorities to speed up relief work in flood-hit areas
NAWABSHAH, Sept 17 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday directed the provincial authorities to accelerate provision of food, shelter and medical facilities to the flood victims in Sindh. He said the government would ensure maximum utilization of its resources and machinery for the relief of flood victims.Gilani was addressing the flood-affected people at their camps that also included a free medical make-shift facility by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) here.The Prime Minister took round of the camps and reviewed the arrangements to facilitate the flood victims. Gilani directed the Sindh Chief Minister to ensure provision of edibles to the affected people and said till their housing arrangements, the government would continue providing them financial assistance. The Prime Minister directed the authorities to send medical teams, including lady doctors to the camps for the treatment of women patients.
Gilani said he had called off his visit to the United States because his priority was to personally supervise relief activities in the country’s flood-hit areas.
“The government is fully conscious of its responsibilities and will not only ensure relief but also rehabilitation of the sufferers,” he added.
He said that it was the government’s duty to ensure relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims.
“The PPP government will never let down the people of country,” he reiterated.
He said that the government would immediately start rehabilitation of the flood victims once the flood water receded and the areas became accessible.
The Prime Minister said that he would regularly visit each and every flood affected district of the province so as to ensure that confidence of the people might further be strengthened and ongoing relief work was extensively reviewed.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Punjab Governor Latif Khosa accompanied the Prime Minister.
Members of the relief committee, constituted by the Prime Minister, Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khurshid Shah, former Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Nazar Mohammad Gondal were also present.
