PM visits relief, medical camps in Sanghar; assures all out support to flood-affected people
SANGHAR, Sep 17 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said despite the limited resources, the government was taking all out steps to ensure the provision of relief to the people, affected by devastating rains and floods in Sindh.The scale of devastation caused by heavy rains and floods in Sindh was far beyond their thoughts, he said, and hoped that the government will overcome this challenge as philanthropists, donor agencies and the international institutions were with them.The Prime Minister expressed these views while visiting the relief and medical camps, set up for the people affected by recent heavy rains and floods in Sangarh. Gilani inquired after the well-being of affected people at relief and medical camps. He on this occasion also took up a flood affected kid in his arms and embraced him with affection.
The Prime Minister on this occasion also distributed ration bags among the affected people.
He was accompanied by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah, MNA Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Chairman Baitul Maal Zamurd Khan and senior officials.
The Prime Minister directed the Chief Minister Sindh to ensure the speedy discharge of flood waters from the affected areas.
District Cordination Officer (DCO) Sangarh Ghulam Haider Mangrio in a briefing informed the Prime Minister that 770 mm of rain has so far been recorded in Sanghar, due to which 800,000 people were affected, 25,000 houses damaged and 32 people lost their lives.
The Prime Minister was informed that 200,000 tents, 800,000 ration bags and other essential items like clean drinking water, medicines and dry milk, were required for the affected people in Sanghar.
The Prime Minister also ordered aerial fumigation in Taluka Shahdadkot of district Sanghar during visit to relief camp set near Sanghar Sugar Mills, in Union Council Kehore, Taluka Sanghar.
The PM directed that the NA Parliamentary Committee for Relief shall visit every district and review the situation there.
Federal Minister for Anti-Corrpution Haji Khuda Bakhsh Rajar was also present.
