Firdous to raise teachers’ upgradation issue with PM
ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday assured the teachers of federal government colleges to raise the issue of their upgradation with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.Talking to the teachers, who gathered in front of the National Press Club here to protest non-upgradation of their scales, Dr Firdous said they were respectable and were a role model for the society.She said no one would be allowed to humiliate the teachers and added that she would also talk to Secretary Capital Administration and Development Junaid Iqbal on the issue.
She assured that the elements, who were responsible for not implementing the Prime Minister’s directives, would be made accountable.
Dr Firdous said a meeting of the leaders of teachers community would also be arranged with the Prime Minister.
Earlier teachers of both men and women colleges of the Federal Capital staged a demonstration to protest non-upgradation of their scales and boycotted classes.
The teachers demanded that directives issued by the Prime Minister regarding their upgradation should be implemented.
A spokesman of Teachers Association, Muhammad Tahir, said teachers were forced to come on roads for the acceptance of their genuine demand.
He said teachers were given assurance for many times that their scales would be upgraded but nothing happened during the whole year.
