Opposition has no agenda to serve masses: PM
ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, while addressing the National Assembly session on Friday, said that the Opposition was isolated and clueless after its agenda to incite people into agitation had failed miserably. The Prime Minister said that the government succeeded in overcoming the problem of loadshedding and today there was no load-shedding in the country. The  Opposition was now playing to the gallery and did not have any concrete agenda to serve the messes. “Instigating people to damage public and private properties is a politics that should be rejected”, he added.
Recalling his words that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) would stay in the ruling coalition, the Prime Minister said that it had been proven right and the Opposition stood isolated, a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s media wing here on Friday said.
 The Prime Minister said that Lowari tunnel project was conceived by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to provide facilities to the people of Chitral and the present government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would complete it without any iota of doubt.
 He said that he had already held two meetings with the Minister for Communications and allocated Rs. 2 billion to resume work on the tunnel.
 The Prime Minister said that the mega project of Diamer Basha Dam was the dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and the present government was determined to realize her dream at all costs.
 He said that the completion of project would greatly help overcome energy shortage besides irrigating vast areas of barren lands in the country. He would soon lay its foundation-stone, he added.
 The Prime Minister said that he evolved consensus over the project and solicited unanimous approval of the Council of Common Interests (CCI), a national body having representation of all the federating units.
 The Prime Minister said that the present government would complete all mega projects such as Diamer Basha Dam, Neelum Jhelum Hydel Project, and the raising of Mangla Dam.
 The Prime Minister mentioned the mammoth public rally held recently 30 kilometers outside the Multan city, adding that it was the biggest rally in the history of Multan.
 Later, Members of National Assembly (MNAs) called on the Prime Minister in his Parliament House chamber.
 In his meeting, Tariq Anis MNA apprised the Prime Minister that the people of Shakargarh were happy over the building of two bridges by the federal government, which would curtail the distance by 30 kilometers.
 The MNAs from Sindh in their meeting informed the Prime Minister of the sufferings of the flood victims in the province.
 The Prime Minister directed them to meet Parliamentary Relief Committee, which would direct the relevant authorities to expedite the delivery of relief goods.
 The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Water and Power to make arrangements for pumping stagnant water out of the inundated areas and also take immediate action to clear the water escape routes, which had been encroached upon.
 In a meeting with Minister of State for Human Resource Development Sheikh Waqas Akram, the Prime Minister approved the up-gradation of the Government College Jhang as a degree awarding institution.
 The Prime Minister asked the Minister of State to get in touch with the Higher Education Commission and the Ministry of Information Technology to meet the required formalities. He said that he would like to inaugurate the opening of university in Jhang.
 Talking to Laal Khan, MNA from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, the Prime Minister said that the cabinet meeting, which was to be held in Peshawar, had to be postponed due to the current Assembly session and other pressing engagements, adding that the next cabinet meeting would soon be held in Peshawar and he would spend a couple of days there.
 The Prime Minister asked the parliamentarians to focus on the completion of ongoing developmental projects so that fruits of developments could reach the common man and take up new schemes after the present ones are completed.
