President Zardari, PM Gilani, Bilawal attend funeral, burial of Begum Bhutto
NAUDERO, Oct 24 (APP): Funeral prayer of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, “Mother of Democracy”, former first lady and widow of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was offered at President House here on Monday. Mufti Abdul Raheem Kandhar led the funeral prayers. Later, Begum Nusrat Bhutto was laid to rest beside her husband, former prime minister and PPP’s founder Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto at the family graveyard in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh. President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, federal ministers Khurshid Shah, A. Rehman Malik and Syed Naveed Qamar, PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira, former minister Babar Awan, PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar, Zamarad Khan, NA Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Barrister Sultan Mehmood, Farahatullah Babar, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Manzoor Wassan, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Imtiaz Safdar Waraich, PML-N leaders Syed Ghous Ali Shah and Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, attended the funeral and burial of Begum Bhutto.
Hundreds of PPP workers and leaders, besides prominent persons from all walks of life also offered the funeral prayers of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
Leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), including Farooq Sattar were also present.
Strict security measures were taken on the occasion with deployment of heavy contingents of police and Rangers.
The body of late Begum Nusrat Bhutto was earlier brought by a special plane to Sukkur Airport from Dubai, from where a helicopter shifted the body to Naudero.
It may be mentioned here that the highest civilian award Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence) had been conferred on late Begum Nusrat Bhutto for her “courage, innumerable sacrifices and suffering” for upholding the cause of democracy.
