Gilani-Manmohan bilateral talks to promote regional peace: Dr. Firdous
KARACHI, Nov 10 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of 17th SAARC Summit, was an important milestone to promote peace and prosperity in the region. She was talking to media after her arrival from the Federal Capital at Jinnah International Airport on Thursday. She said initiatives are being taken in accordance with the Federal Cabinet decision, to promote trade between Pakistan and India and it is imperative to make other regional countries part of this process. She said it is a significant progress towards the betterment in relation between the two countries. Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan told a questioner that it has been clearly mentioned in the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement that India would be given the access to Afghanistan via Pakistan.
She said it is a commitment of the present government and leadership to eliminate terrorism and extremism and action would be taken against all those organisations which challenge the solidarity of the country.
To another question, she said all political parties, the Government and the Armed Forces have a common stance about non-existence of “Haqqani Network” in the country.
If any one has information in this regard, it should be shared with the concerned departments and the government and action would be taken in the light of credible information instead of speculations, she said.
