PM seeks Haqani’s resignation for transparent inquiry of memo issue:Dr. Firdous
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had asked Hussain Haqani to submit resignation in order to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry into the memorandum issue.Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), Dr Firdous said that it was the commitment of the Prime Minister, which he had made on the floor of National Assembly, that the memo issue would be probed impartially and transparently.
She said that the resignation of Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States was the demand of all stakeholders and media had also stressed for the same to ensure a fair probe.
The Information Minister said that the inquiry would be conducted by a free, fair and impartial forum.
She said that the Prime Minister had fulfilled the demand of all stakeholders and the people by asking Hussain Haqani to quit as ambassador.
Replying to a question, she said that Hussain Haqani had presented himself for accountability to the country’s leadership and its people and the other party to the memo issue (Mansoor Ejaz) should also do the same.
She urged the media to deal the matters regarding national security with responsibilty.
She said that a responsible media would be very helpful for the federal security institutions and promoting the democratic values in the country.
