19th Amendment Bill, a very big decision: PM
ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani termed the passage of 19th Amendment Bill a ‘very big decision’ of the Parliament that reflected that the government had respected the judiciary. Speaking in the National Assembly on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said the bill would pave the way for future legislators to avert any clash of institutions. It underscored that each institution must pay respect to the other, the PM added.Gilani hailed the tremendous efforts of Constitutional Reforms Committee, and sought highest civil award for its members for their meritorious services vis a vis passage of the 19 Amendment Bill.”We have proved that we respect the judiciary”, he maintained.
Prime Minister said the Parliament had proved that it had materialized the vision of its founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who propounded parliamentary form of government in Pakistan.
He recalled various past amendments incorporated in 1973 Constitution, which were primarily meant either to protect or perpetuate the tenure of a single individual, but it was for the first time that the current parliament had strengthened the Constitution and institutions.
Gilani said the parliament and all political leadership through their political sagacity had misspelled the prevailing impression as if Parliament and Judiciary could not go together. “This vision has been accepted by the nation”, he said.
