Parliament is relection of people’s aspirations: Gilani
ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that the parliament was a reflection of the aspirations of people of the country and a supreme forum that translated their will into legislation. Gilani said that the passage of 18th and 19th Constitutional Amendment Bills was indicative of the emergence of a strong parliamentary system due to political sagacity and maturity of the political forces of the country.Talking to a delegation of Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentarians led by its President Asfandyar Wali Khan, which which called on him at his Chamber at the Parliament House, Gilani said that all coalition partners would be taken on board on all major issues of national importance.He said that the policy of reconciliation and consensus had strengthened the democratic norms in the country immensely and major national issues had been successfully resolved. He reiterated the government’s resolve to continue consulting all its partners in future.
The Prime Minister said that his frequent meetings with parliamentarians belonging to different political parties provided the input as to how the government was performing on ground.
He said that they also provided valuable suggestions regarding different projects to which the government always accords high consideration.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that apart from infrastructural development being initiated in the flood ravaged areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal government would provide substantial funds for their reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The Prime Minister thanked the ANP for extending their support on the 19th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Asfandyar Wali Khan and other members of the delegation congratulated the Prime Minister on the passage of the 19th Amendment Bill. They assured the Prime Minister of complete support of the party for strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
The members of the delegation briefed the Prime Minister about the status of the ongoing development projects in their respective areas.
