Greek envoy presents cheque of 100,000 Euros to PM for flood relief
ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP): Ambassador of Greece Petros Navcoidis called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here at the PM House on Thursday and presented him a cheque of 100,000 Euros as donation in PM’s Flood Relief Fund.The Prime Minister appreciated the kind gesture of the government and people of Greece for flood victims in Pakistan.He thanked the role of world community in rescue and relief operation after devastating floods in Pakistan and appreciated their continued support for upcoming phase of reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The Prime Minister informed the Ambassador that he has constituted National Oversight Disaster Management Council (NODMC) for the transparent disbursement of aid among the flood victims. He also told him about his visit to NADRA Headquarters on Thursday.
He said his government has quickly responded for the relief of 20 million flood victims.
The Prime Minister told the Ambassador that the government has started distributing Rs. 20,000 as first tranche among the flood affected. Uptil now Rs. 15 billion have been distributed through Watan Cards, he added. He said that it is the biggest cash disbursement among displaced persons in the world.
The Ambassador appreciated the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan for the rehabilitation of flood affected. He assured the commitment of his Government to continue to support Pakistan in the upcoming phase of reconstruction as well.
The Ambassador hailed the investment friendly policies of the Government of Pakistan and said that a number of business houses of Greece are interested in investing in various projects in Pakistan.
He also informed the Prime Minister that troika including IMF, European Commission and European Union are deliberating upon to give Pakistan access to the markets to strengthen its economy and to enhance the bilateral trade relations.
He also thanked the Government of Pakistan on behalf of his Government for taking keen interest in retrieving a missing Greece citizen.
Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan, Minister for Privatization was also present in the meeting.
