ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (APP): Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday said Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani is enjoying complete support of the Party. Dispelling a false impression in media, he said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari has full confidence on the Prime Minister and they solidly back him in defeating any attempt to upset the government. Speaking to a private news channel, he said “Prime Minister is not alone and he will not be left alone at all. The party fully stands behind him.”
Replying to a question, he said there is a section of media which has been indulging in propaganda campaign against PPP and its leadership and is trying to paint a crisis scenario.
Stressing the need for constructive and realistic journalism, he said that PPP has always welcomed constructive criticism and would always continue to do so.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said media has witnessed progress during last few years and has usually played a positive role. But a certain section of media should understand its national responsibilities and avoid misguiding and misleading the people.
When asked about legislation, he said every legislation is made in the interest of the people and all parties including opposition took part in the process. “We took opposition on board and did legislation after evolving consensus. All opposition parties supported the legislation in the larger national interest,” he added.
He said the economic situation of the country is evident to everyone and present regime has always invited all political parties to give inputs on how this international trend can be averted and how can we can improve lot of the masses.
Urging the political parties to forge greater unity in their ranks and set aside their differences, he said the country is facing many challenges and the need of the hour is to focus on resolving the problems facing the country with consensus.
Khwaja Saad Rafique of PML(N) and Sheikh Waqas Akram of PML (Q) also attended the programme and highlighted the stance of their respective parties.
