Govt making concerted efforts to provide relief to masses: PM
ISLAMABAD, Jan 12 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday that despite global recession and international price hike, the government was making concerted efforts to provide relief to all segments of society through the adoption of effective economic measures.The Prime Minister was talking to federal ministers, who called on him here at the PM Secretariat.The Prime Minister said that the government had prioritized the execution and completion of development projects with a view to achieve the goal of sustained economic growth through efficient utilization of available resources. He said that the cooperation and inputs of parliamentarians in this regard would greatly help the government in evaluating the viability of projects.
The Prime Minister said that keeping in view the current fiscal situation, the ministries should focus their energies upon cost effective and timely completion of the projects to make best utilization of the public money.
The Prime Minister stressed upon greater coordination among the ministries specially while undertaking the public welfare schemes.
He said that people had elected their representatives expecting them to solve their basic problems, adding, it was the national duty of the parliamentarians to keep close contact with the people of their constituencies in solving their problems expeditiously.
The ministers apprised the Prime Minister about the issues relating to their respective ministries. They also briefed him about the status of various development projects initiated by their respective ministries as well as in constituencies.
Those, who met the Prime Minister, were Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah, Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Petroleum Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Zaheeruddin Babar Awan and Minister for Narcotics Control Arbab Muhammad Zahir.
