PM, senators discuss political situation
ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (APP): A group of senators on Friday called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM House and discussed political situation in the country.Those who attended meeting included Minister of State for Postal Services Abdul Raziq, Senator Eng. Rashid Ahmed Khan, Senator Haji Khan Afridi and Senator Hafiz Rasheed Ahmed who reposed their full confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister and assured him of their unwavering support.The Prime Minister said despite economic challenges due to the devastating floods, terrorism and global recession, the government was striving to spare funds for development of the backward regions through saving by cutting down non-developmental expenditures.
He declared that a high level meeting of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and public representatives of FATA region will be convened in the coming weeks to chalk out a comprehensive plan for the development of the FATA region badly affected by the terrorism.
The Prime Minister said the government has started consultation with all the political parties to work out a comprehensive and long term economic reform plan for accelerating pace of development and sustainable economic growth.
He said the government was making concerted efforts to bring an economic turnaround in the near future. He added that political consensus on economic plan would strengthen investors’ confidence and pave way for rapid economic growth.
The parliamentarians appreciated the Prime Minister’s humility and keen interest for the welfare of the poor segments of the society and development of the backward regions. They also lauded the Prime Minister’s announcement for opening universities in remote areas of the country.
They commented that such initiatives would not only save the youth of the remote areas from falling prey to the extremists but would also utilize their energies for social and economic development.
