Gilani for building green Asia  

     
LAHORE, Oct 27 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has called upon architects to play their role in building green Asia for today as well as the future generations. Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 14th Asian Congress of the Architects (ACA-14) at the Expo Centre here on Wednesday, he said “We must learn from our mistakes and build Asia which would live in harmony with nature”.
Gilani said the governments could only devise policies but it was the responsibility of the architects to come with ideas to introduce greener environment which is carbon and toxic free.
The prime minister lauded services of the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) in the flood relief efforts for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people, saying, the government would consider their proposal for setting up National Rehabilitation Authority (NARA) proposed by the IAP.
He assured of government’s full support to the IAP adding that it was in line with government’s policy to strengthen institutions in the country.
“Global warming, carbon emissions, deforestation and settlements in the vulnerable areas are the various challenges faced by the country and it is our responsibility to build a safer environment for the future generations”, the prime minister said.
Lauding the services of the architects in developing non-sustainable resources of the country, he said architects blend the environment and make it people friendly.
The prime minister also announced the lease of Bradlaugh Hall to the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) adding that he had directed the concerned quarters in this regard.
Earlier, the participants of the congress observed one minute silence for the victims of the devastating floods in the country.  
More than hundred delegates from 20 countries including the Deputy Mayor of Seoul city are participating in the three-day congress to be held from October 27-29.
