Govt duty-bound to address masses’ problems; to fulfil all promises: PM

       
MULTAN, Oct 28 (APP)- Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said the present elected and democratic government will fulfil all the promises made with the masses, as it was duty-bound to address the problems of country and people.“This is a people’s government. You have elected us and we are duty-bound to address the problems of country and people”, Gilani said while addressing a function here at the inauguration of “Sweet Home” project and the distribution of wheel chairs and cash assistance, organized by Pakistan Bait- ul- Maal.
The Prime Minister said the government was fully aware of the problems like unemployment, inflation, electricity shortage etc., adding, “But I assure that the government will fulfil all promises made with the masses.”
Prime Minister Gilani said the restoration of democracy was a big challenge, which was achieved with the support and backing of masses, adding, the democratic institutions including the parliament were gaining strength.
He said the present government has fulfilled its promises of restoring the 1973 Constitution, ensuring supremacy of parliament and giving enhanced provincial autonomy to provinces through the unanimous approval of 18th Constitutional Amendment.
The Prime Minister also referred to the consensus approval of 7th NFC Award and said the additional resources made available for the provinces under the new award would also be utilized for the socio-economic betterment of masses.
He also mentioned the introduction of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) by the present government and said the programme, which was aimed to help the low income groups in the country, has been recognized and appreciated by the world.
The Prime Minister said currently a poverty survey was being conducted under the BISP and after the completion of this survey, poorest people of the country would be extended financial assistance as well as other facilities.
He said the facilities such as the waiver of utility bills, health insurance and life insurance for the poorest segment of society were also being considered under the BISP.
The Prime Minister besides announcing the construction of a road from “Khad Factory to Pul Khadal” also assured to give due consideration to the provision of liver-transplant facility and addressing other issues of the area.
The Prime Minister appreciated the role of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Bait ul Maal in extending help and assistance to the poor and destitute.
He said the orphans to be given shelter in Sweet Home would be imparted quality education through the best institutions like Educators and the government will bear the expanses till graduation.
The Prime Minister urged the philanthropists and affluent people to come forward and help the government in introducing such projects for the poor and needy people.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Sweet Home project, distributed wheel chairs among 1,000 disabled persons and Rs. 50,000 each among the 2,000 poor people.
