PM asks HEC to prepare feasibility for IT varsity in Hazara
ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to prepare a feasibility report for setting up an IT university in Hazara Division.He was talking to HEC Chairman Javed R. Leghari and Vice Chancellor of Hazara University Professor Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah at PM House.The Prime Minister reiterated that education was the government’s priority sector considering it a solution to the problems of extremism and terrorism. Gilani accepted the invitation of the Vice Chancellor of Hazara University to grace the institution’s annual convocation.
The Prime Minister assured the Vice Chancellor that he would personally talk to the Turkish Prime Minister regarding completion of the remaining construction work of the Hazara University project.
He also asked Vice Chancellor to prepare a feasibility report for the construction of student hostels and staff colony. He assured him that the government would provide requisite funds for the project.
The HEC Chairman apprised the Prime Minister about compilation of Seraiki dictionary by his organization. He appreciated HEC’s efforts for compilation of a Seraiki dictionary for the first time in history.
He also briefed the Prime Minister about the progress of work on the establishment of IT universities in FATA, D.G. Khan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir earlier announced by him. He also briefed the Prime Minister about progress on the establishment of an engineering university in Multan.
The Vice Chancellor informed the Prime Minister that the Hazara University was catering the needs of more than 7,000 students on campus while 45,000 students were studying in its affiliated colleges.
He also apprised the Prime Minister that 50 to 60 per cent work on campus building had been completed and requested help in completion of the remaining construction work.
