Dialogue process imperative to overcome economic challenges: PM
ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said that Parliament being a democratic institution reflects the will of the people and all the national issues are brought to this forum for deliberation. Referring to the Government’s policy of reconciliation, he said, dialogue is a continuous process and imperative to overcome the economic challenges being faced by the country. The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Awami National Party (ANP) led by Senator Haji Adeel, that called on him here at his Parliament House Chamber on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister said that economic team of the Government is working relentlessly to identify options as well as solutions for the economic challenges.
“We are consulting all the stakeholders and political partners to find long lasting solutions”, he said and added despite economic constraints, the Government is focusing on the completion of development projects in war torn areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Prime Minister observed that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the people, have suffered in the war against terrorism yet they heroically faced this menace.
The Prime Minister agreed with ANP delegation over wider parliamentary ownership for economic reforms. The Government is taking hard decisions for the future generations and not for next elections or political point scoring, he added.
He appreciated ANP for its steadfastness as coalition partners through thick and thin and supporting the policies and decisions of the Government in greater national interest.
The delegation lauded the Prime Minister for his political sagacity and assured the support of their party in formulating policies to overcome the economic challenges.
The delegation included Senator Zahid Khan, Senator Afraseab Khattak and Member National Assembly (MNA) Ms. Bushra Gohar.
Minister for Finance Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Privatization Syed Naveed Qamar and Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah were also present in the meeting.
