PM assures dialogue with unarmed tribal
ISLAMABAD, Feb 25 (APP) Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday reiterated government’s resolve to continue pursuing 3Ds (dialogue, development, deterrence) policy, assuring talks with tribal who are ready to surrender their arms to the tribal agents of their respective areas.“We are ready to hold talks with those who will voluntarily decommission to the tribal agents. We are ready to bring them into mainstream,” he said while speaking in the national assembly.
However, the Prime Minister ruled out any dialogue with those working on foreign agenda.
Recalling the Swat and Malakand operations, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the government while pursuing 3Ds policy first initiated dialogue but the Taliban violated the agreement signed with them.
“They (Taliban) attacked and destroyed educational institutions, killed Ulema and Mashaikh and humiliated women and children. The government then launched military operation there after the consent of the Parliament.”
He said keeping arm is the tradition and custom of the tribesmen and they dislike being disarmed.
“We want them (tribal people) to decommission, if they surrender their arms to tribal agents the government would hold talk with them as well as bring them in the mainstream.”
Referring to overall law and order situation in the country, the Prime Minister said that terrorism and extremism are major factors behind the deteriorated law and order situation.
“I have been saying from day one that the terrorism and extremism are troublesome problems of the country. The law and order cannot improve until and unless terrorism and extremism are curbed.”
He said the economy cannot improve with unsatisfactory law and order situation and both are interlinked.
“Due to terrorist or suicide attacks there is flight of capital, hampering foreign investment.”
The Prime Minister said that it should be priority for all of us to control these two menaces by showing unity.
“I am grateful to the leadership of Pakistan, they have shown politicalmaturity and whether they are in or outside of the parliament, realize the terrorism is a complicated problem for Pakistan.”
The Prime Minister said that peaceful Afghanistan is in vital interest of the country, adding “Pakistan is part of solution and not part of problems, there is realization between the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“Both the governments have realized that they are paying a heavy price in this war and both have to finalize a unanimous strategy.”
He appreciated constitution of peace council under the head of former President of Afghanistan Professor Burhan ud Din and hoped it would help maintain peace.
“Pakistan wants stable Afghanistan which is in its interest. We have no other motives. Stability in Afghanistan would help 3.5 million Afghan refugees living in Pakistan to return to their country with dignity and respect,” he said.
Gilani said Pakistan has paid a heavy price in terms of causalities of its security security personnel and citizens in the war on terror. “Our causalities are more then those of NATO forces.”
He said people should realize that Pakistan is not only rendering sacrifices but also paying the price in economic terms.
