Prefer sitting in opposition rather indulging in “game of interests”: Gilani
ISLAMABAD, Mar 1 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Tuesday said it was preferable to sit in opposition rather than indulge in “a game of interests” and politics, contrary to the trust reposed by the people.Talking to Syed Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Jamshed Dasti, members of the National Assembly, who met him separately at his Parliament House Chamber here, Prime Minister Gilani said that since coming to power the government had taken every step for the promotion of democratic values and would continue its stance of “principled and issue-based politics” in future.
“It is preferable to sit in opposition rather than indulging in politics, in contravention to the trust reposed by the people and get involved in the game of interests,” Gilani said.
The Prime Minister said that the new cabinet had been selected carefully by following the principle of public support and all its members were directly elected members of the Parliament.
He said that size of the Cabinet was reduced to practically demonstrate seriousness of the government towards the implementation of the 18th Amendment in letter and spirit.
He urged the political forces of the country to set an example by following true democratic norms and values.
Jamshed Dasti discussed the prevailing political and economic situation in the country. He introduced to the Prime Minister Abdul Basit, who has represented Pakistan in Rugby at international events.
The Prime Minister lauded Abdul Basit and urged him to work hard for improving his game. He directed that a proper job be provided to the player at the earliest.
Riaz Pirzada discussed the overall political situation and issues related to his constituency. He informed the Prime Minister about progress in the on-going development projects in his area.
