Gilani offers help to Japan
MULTAN, March 13 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that Pakistan had offered assistance to Japan after massive earthquake and tsunami.He was talking to reporters after opening two grid stations and performing the ground breaking of a cancer treatment facility at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) here. Gilani said that during a ceremony at Karachi, where ambassadors of different countries were present, he expressed sympathies for the tsunami-hit Japanese people and offered condolences.
Gilani said he had offered field hospitals, medical teams or any other assistance that could help mitigate the suffering of people in Japan.Gilani said he had also sent a condolence message to Japan.
To a question on Raymond Davis, Prime Minister Gilani said that the media had created hype on the issue. “No one is more patriot than the PPP and the government will not take any step that undermines the dignity and honour of the country,” he added.
When asked about law and order in Karachi, Prime Minister Gilani said it was a provincial matter. However, he added law enforcement agencies had been ordered to step up efforts and provide information to the provinces.
He said, “We have to work together to tackle the problem” and stressed an effective implementation of a join strategy in this connection.
To a question on a protest in the Punjab Assembly, he said it was a matter related to the provincial leadership. He said the PPP had always based its politics on reconciliation and would continue to do so despite new developments in Punjab. However, he added the reaction was expected.
He said the PPP felt comfortable while playing the role of opposition in Punjab. When asked about relations with Nawaz Sharif, he said they were never strained.
To a question, he said former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was still part of the PPP. On a meeting of PML-Q leaders with President Asif Ali Zardari, he said the PML-Q had voted for the PPP in prime minister’s election.
To a question, he said it was too early to comment on future alliances or politics of electioneering.
To a question on the FIA DG, he refused comment and said the matter was sub judice. To another query, he said the PPP respected the mandate of all provinces.
