Gilani visits Japanese embassy, condoles over deaths in tsunami, earthquake
ISLAMABAD, March 14 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani visited the Embassy of Japan here on Monday and expressed his condolences to Ambassador Chihiro Atsumi over the loss of colossal life and property in the devastating tsunami and earthquake in his country. Talking to the Japanese Ambassador, the Prime Minister expressed complete solidarity with the Japanese nation and offered support of his government in relief activities. With the aid of maps, the Japanese Ambassador briefed the Prime Minister about the extent of the destruction caused by the last Friday’s 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan’s coastal areas, the worst disaster that struck the country after World War II.
The Ambassador expressed the hope that Japan would emerge from the tragedy with the support of international community.
Writing his impressions in a condolence book, the Prime Minister stated, “I wish to convey heartfelt and most profound condolences from the people and government of Pakistan to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the catastrophe.”
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir accompanied the Prime Minister.
