Gilani leaves for home after 2-day Kyrgyz visit
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 16 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani left here for Islamabad on Wednesday at the end of a two-day official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic.The Prime Minister was sent off by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev at the Manas International Airport. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Tanvir Akhtar Khaskheli and other senior government officials were also present.Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Secretary Defence Lt Gen (retd) Syed Athar Ali and President of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Senator Ghulam Ali, accompanied the Prime Minister.
During Prime Minister Gilani’s visit, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement on military training and a memorandum of understanding on enhancing the volume of bilateral trade.
Prime Minister Gilani and his Kyrgyz counterpart signed a Joint Statement that announced establishment of Joint Business Council, declaration of Islamabad and the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek as sister cities, cooperation in intelligence-sharing, checking drug-trafficking in the region and exchange of parliamentary delegations.
Gilani held talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart and President Roza Otenbayeva and discussed issues of mutual interest. He also met the Kyrgyz National Assembly Speaker and Foreign Minister.
Prime Minister Gilani’s visit to Kyrgyzstan has been termed by the Kyrgyz government as a milestone in increasing the trade volume between the two countries besides opening up of new avenues of cooperation in diverse fields.
