Govt committed to root out terrorism, alleviate poverty: Gilani
GUJRAT, Oct 30 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the government was committed to work collectively to root out terrorism, alleviate poverty, improve law and order and tackle the challenges of inflation, unemployment and power shortages.Speaking at the death anniversary of Nawabzada Fazal Ali, the founder of Zamindar College here on Saturday, the Prime Minister said objective of the policy of political reconciliation was to resolve problems of people.He said that people had given mandate to PPP and it would work with others for the welfare of people despite differences of party manifesto and ideology.
He said after completion of poverty survey, under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), concessions would be given to poor people in school fees, electricity and gas bills and health and life insurance would be provided.
He said federal and provincial governments are prepared to help build homes for the flood affected people.
The Prime Minister pointed out that 20 million people were living homeless due to floods and Pakistan, which is the 5th biggest producer of milk, has suffered losses of its livestock.
The Prime Minister assured that damaged infrastructure including roads and bridges would be rebuilt.
The government has accepted the challenges to revive livestock and restore agriculture affected in areas considered food basket of the country, he said adding farmers having less than 25 acres in flood hit areas would be given free seeds and fertilizer.
Gilani said priorities of budget would be reordered for the rehabilitation of affected people.
He mentioned that after Aligarh University and Anjuman Islam Lahore, Zamindar College was the third biggest institution in the sub-continent and people of the area have an emotional connection with the college and the personalities related to it.
He said nationalization of educational institutions was a mistake and wrongs of the policy would be undone.
He also referred to the services of his family for the advancement of education in Multan.
The Prime Minister announced a grant of Rs. 50 million for Zamindar College to improve facilities besides giving orders for setting up of a livestock institute in the area.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and federal and provincial ministers attended the ceremony.
