Prime Minister Gilani calls on PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif
LONDON, April 8 (APP)- Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani called on the PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif at his Park Lane apartment on Friday to inquire about his health and welfare following a heart surgery. The PML-N leader has been convalescing following a minor heart operation last month when a stent was inserted in his cardiac region. The Prime Minister himself is in the British capital on a private visit in connection with the hospitalisation of his son Haider Gilani. Hasan Nawaz, son of the PML-N leader, received the Prime Minister when he arrived at the apartment building overlooking Hyde Park.
In brief chat with the media persons, the Prime Minister said he had been in telephonic contact with Nawaz Sharif and wished to visit him personally to inquire about his health since he is himself in London.
The two leaders met for nearly half an hour and discussed political and economic situation in the country. Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan accompanied Prime Minister Gilani.
In response to a question, he said the case of a private TV channel is before the court so he could not comment but added that PEMRA has ended all the draconian laws pertaining to press freedom and the media is vibrant and thriving in Pakistan.
In response to another question on the young doctors strike, the Prime Minister said both the federal and provincial governments were seized of the issue and taking appriopriate steps to resolve the matter.
Nawaz Sharif on his part expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for paying him a visit. He said his son Hasan had called on Gilani’s son on Thursday and inquired about his health.
The PML-N Chief said he would be returning to Pakistan soon and would have rather gone back much earlier had he not faced this surgery. He conveyed his thanks and gratitude to all those who prayed for his health and welfare.
