New package for doctors to provide better service structure, salaries
ISLAMABAD, Apr 12 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said the new service structure package for the doctors was aimed at providing them better facilities so that they can serve the masses. Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House after meeting a group of doctors who specially came there to thank the Prime Minister, Gilani said the package would provide them job security and ensure regular progress in their career. He said a committee has been constituted to improve the service structure and it would submit its report in next 15 days.
The doctors showered flower petals on the prime minister and thanked the government for meeting their demand. Gilani said the government has met a very old demand of the doctors and wanted that the doctors stay within the country and refrain from opting jobs abroad.
He said unlike the past when the doctors rarely got promotions, the new package has focussed on career progression and better emoluments.
The Prime Minister said a huge non-practicing allowance would also be provided to the doctors. To a question that some of the doctors have not accepted the package, the prime minister said though all have agreed to it, however if they had some suggestions these too could be considered. The Prime Minister on Monday informed the National Assembly that doctors on contract have been regularised and a new service structure of medical practitioners and para-medical staff has been approved that meets their long standing demands.
