Govt accords special priority to welfare of AJK people: PM
ISLAMABAD, April 13 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned for early provision of requisite funds for ongoing development schemes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He said that his government accorded special priority to the welfare of the people of AJK. During a meeting with AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attiq Ahmed Khan, who called on him here at the PM House, the Prime Minister agreed to visit AJK in the near future in connection with the inauguration of two universities established at Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot. During the visit he will also inaugurate a hydel project.
The Prime Minister informed the AJK PM that an amount of Rs. 350 million for MLAs (Members Legislative Assembly) as a special grant had been approved and an equal amount would be released in the coming budget.
The various aspects of Mangla Dam impounding proposal were also discussed in the meeting. The issue of extended family project for the settlement of the families dislocated due to raising of Mangla Dam was also discussed during the meeting.
The AJK Prime Minister apprised the Prime Minister that the land acquisition for Sardar Abdul Qayyum Women University has been completed. He said that this university will be built at a cost of Rs. 500 million.
During the meeting the Gujrat-Bhimber Road project costing around 500 million rupees was also discussed, which would promote tourism and economic activities in the area.
The Prime Minister was further informed that a drinking water project costing Rs. 3 billion had been completed by WAPDA which would cater to the needs of Mirpur city.
