Govt firm on support to Kashmiris: PM
ISLAMABAD, April 14 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday reiterated his government’s commitment to continue moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri brethren. The government, he added, was providing development funds to all the political representatives irrespective of their political affiliations.
Gilani said that the announcement of Gilgit-Baltistan package was a clear manifestation of the government’s resolve to give rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, who called on him at the PM House.
Appreciating the role of Mian Manzoor as the Chairman of the Committee formed to review the pace of work on construction of Bhasha Dam and Mangla Dam raising project, the Prime Minister said that the completion of these projects would add considerable megawatts to the National Grid to meet the energy requirements of the country in future.
Referring to the upcoming general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister asked the Minister for Kashmir Affairs to ensure free, fair and transparent elections according to the schedule to be announced by the Election Commission.
The Prime Minister observed that Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have tremendous potential for tourism. He asked the Minister to ask the tourism departments to make best arrangements for the upcoming Shindur Festival. This will help promote tourism and also give a strong message of improved law and order situation in these areas.
Mian Manzoor briefed the Prime Minister about the arrangements made by his ministry to hold coming elections in AJK. He also apprised him of various development schemes undertaken by his ministry.
