Govt committed to uphold freedom of expression: PM
ISLAMABAD, April 14 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said the government was committed to uphold complete freedom of expression and was working in close coordination with all representative media bodies in the larger national interest to promote democratic culture. The government is taking concrete steps for the welfare of journalists, he added.The Prime Minister was talking to President Hyderabad Press Club, Muhammad Hussain who called on him here at his Chamber in the Parliament House on Thursday afternoon.
The Prime Minister said that directions have been issued to release the grant already announced for the construction of Hyderabad Press Club.
The Prime Minister while lauding the role of media in the government’s efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism form the country said that more close cooperation is need of the hour.
He said that the role of media is equally important in the overall progress and development of the country.
The President Hyderabad Press Club thanked the Prime Minister for facilitation in the land acquisition for the Press Club. He lauded the Prime Minister’s personal interest in the welfare of the journalist community.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan and the former president of the Hyderabad Press Club, Mahesh Kumar were also present in the meeting.
