Empowerment of Gilgit Baltistan to ensure public well-being: Gilani
ISLAMABAD, April 15 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday said the empowerment of Gilgit-Baltistan was in line with the government’s series of initiatives for the overall wellbeing and development of under-developed areas. Talking to Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Pir Syed Karam Ali Shah, the  Prime Minister said the people living in the country’s northern part would soon see the results of the government’s efforts to significantly improve their living standard.The Prime Minister said the office of the Governor being the representative of federal government was important as it oversaw the smooth running of the affairs of the governance.
He asked the Governor Gilgit-Baltistan to develop a system of regular feedback regarding the Federal Government’s initiatives in the area so that these can be made more viable for the people.
The Prime Minister on the request of Governor Gilgit-Baltistan directed the concerned authorities to assess the progress made on the rehabilitation of the people affected by the floods and other calamities in these areas. 
He also directed to assess the strength of embankments of the nulla in Ghizer for necessary steps to save the local population in case of any future natural disaster.
The Governor Gilgit-Baltistan thanked the Prime Minister for his keen interest in the development of the area. He also lauded his readiness to resolve any outstanding issue pertaining to Gilgit-Baltistan. He invited the Prime Minister to pay a visit to the area in the near future which he accepted.
