PM directs NHA to expedite rehabilitation work in flood-hit areas
ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday directed the National Highway Authority and other concerned authorities to expedite the rehabilitation work in the flood-affected areas of the country, particularly the repair of roads and strengthening of embankments.He said the funds had already been allocated for the purpose and timely information must be communicated to the government in case of any shortage of funds. The Prime Minister was talking to Parliamentarians who called on him at the PM House here this morning.
Gilani said the resilience of people affected by the devastating floods had been acknowledged by the international community. He said the role of the parliamentarians was laudable as they earnestly helped their brethren in their own constituencies as well as in other parts of the country.
The Prime Minister said the directions had been issued to prioritize the constructions of bypass roads to enable the traffic restoration and spare the existing roads from damage because of heavy load.
The Prime Minister said the schemes had been initiated in various regions of the country in health sector to immunize the people from fatal diseases.
He added that the response was very encouraging and it would be further expanded. He asked the parliamentarians to keep close liaison with him about the functioning of these schemes to improve its quality by pointing out lacunas in its operations.
The Parliamentarians informed the Prime Minister about various specific issues pertaining to their areas. They also briefed him about the status of development work being carried out in their respective constituencies from the development funds being allocated by the Prime Minister.
They appreciated the Prime Minister for his generous and just approach of funds allocations for public welfare schemes.
The Parliamentarians submitted various schemes including the electrification of different areas, construction/widening of roads and gas supply in their constituencies for next year budget. The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to submit feasibility report in this regard at the earliest.
The Parliamentarians included MNAs Gul Muhammad Jhakrani, Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Saima Akhtar Bharwana, Noor ul Haq Qadri, Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari, Sardar Bahadur Ahmed Khan Sehar, Dr. Ayatullah Durrani and Senator Salahuddin Dogar.
