PPP has good track record with coalition partners: Gilani
LAHORE, May 1 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said the PPP has a good track record with all its coalition partners. He was talking to newsmen at the residence of Mian Aamir Mahmood, former Lahore District Nazim, here at Model Town where he had come to condole his mother’s death . Interior Minister Rehman Malik also accompanied him. The Prime Minister observed that naturally, the alliances are in the best interest of the country and the nation, and a stable government can better serve the masses.
To a question, he said the PPP would finalize the modalities of the alliance with Pakistan Muslim League (Q) in a detailed meeting with PML-Q leadership.
Referring to a question about National Assembly Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s statment, he said, the Islami Jamhoori Ittihaad (IJI) was formed against the PPP, and equating the PPP and PML-Q alliance with IJI would be highly unjustified.
To another question about the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister, he said, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had given the constitution to Pakistan and ‘we have revived it and we are its custodians, so we will collaborate with our coalition partners within the parameters of the Constitution.’
PPP had been in alliance with PML-N, however, this partnership at federal level could not go for a long, but at provincial level (Punjab) they had been remained coalition partners for three years, and the PML-N it-self had parted way with PPP, which did not leave it to the last, he responded to a questioner.
The Prime Minister said, the MQM was still PPP’s coalition partner and it has the prerogative to rejoin the federal cabinet any time. The MQM and PPP are in alliance in Sindh government, while the Sindh Governor, who is the representative of the President, is also from MQM. While, Jamiat Ulema Islam- Fazl (JUI-F) is not against the PPP, and both are coalition partner in Balochistan as well as sharing powers in Gilgit-Baltistan, he maintained.
To a question, Gilani said that National Electricity Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) determined the power tariff, and as for as the POL prices are concerned, he said, the oil prices in India, UK and the entire world have increased, and Pakistan also has to follow the international market in this regard.
To another question, the Interior Minister told the media that according to an agreement among the tribes, the tribals had to guard their respective areas, however, the FC and other law enforcement agencies had been deployed in 15 to 20 kilometres troubled area on Kohat-Tal-Para Channar Road and the situation would be improved within a week.
The Prime Minister also assured that he would talk to KP Governor and the FATA members parliament for early restoration of peace in that area.
