Hilary Clinton telephones PM Gilani
ISLAMABAD, May 16 (APP): The US Secretary of State Ms. Hilary Clinton made a telephone call to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday while he was in a joint meeting of US Senator John Kerry with the President and the Chief of Army Staff at Aiwan-e-Sadr.  The Prime Minister left the meeting and talked with Ms. Hilary Clinton for over 20 minutes.
The Prime Minister mentioned about his meeting with Senator Kerry and apprised her that they had discussed all issues relating to whole gamut of bilateral relations. 
Prime Minister Gilani while reiterating his government’s firm resolve for mutual cooperation against terrorism and extremism suggested setting up of a joint mechanism and strategy so that Government of Pakistan can assume ownership of the war and can tell its people that Pakistan and US are fighting a common enemy.
About the May 2 US operation, the Prime Minister said this incident has led to some mistrust and misunderstanding. The relations were affected by the messages from the US side, the Prime Minister said and added that the mistrust has to be removed.
The Prime Minister stressed the need on his Government’s part for sustaining the public support for its efforts. He said the bilateral relations can only be improved by understanding more confidence building measures which can boost the morale of the public.
The Prime Minister informed Secretary Clinton that while we are committed and have the resolve to fight extremism and terrorism there are some irritants in the relationship which need to be resolved.
He informed Secretary Clinton that Senator John Kerry would apprise her in this regard after the conclusion of meeting being held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The Prime Minister emphasized on maintaining good and cordial relations with Afghanistan and told Secretary Clinton that we believe in peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan because it is important for a stable Pakistan.
Prime Minister Gilani also mentioned about the resumption of composite dialogue with India and said that it’s heading in the right direction and we don’t want it to be derailed in the interest of progress and prosperity of the people of the region.
Prime Minister told Secretary Clinton about the commitment and efforts of the people and the Government of Pakistan in fighting the war on terror and informed her about the sacrifices that Pakistan is making in perpetuity by mentioning the recent incidents of attack on FC trainees at Charsadda and the today’s incident of attack on Saudi diplomat in Karachi.
The Prime Minister told Secretary Clinton that all political parties including PPP in Pakistan believe in moderate politics, democracy and have common objectives to see peace, progress and prosperity in the country.
He told Secretary Clinton that he was looking forward to her visit to Pakistan. Secretary Clinton informed the Prime Minister about the forthcoming visit of Mr. Grossman and Mark Morrel, Deputy Director CIA.
This interaction, she said, would help develop better understanding.
