Decrease in prices of petroleum products to provide relief to common man:Gilani
ISLAMABAD, Jun 2 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the prices of petroleum products have been reduced to provide relief to the common man.This decision has taken in the wake of decrease in the petroleum prices in international market, he added.The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain, who called on him at Prime Minister House on Thursday afternoon.The Prime Ministry directed the Minister to devise a system for accelerated production of oil and gas from indigenous sources.He also called for starting Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas projects at the earliest to meet the growing industrial and commercial need of the country.
The Prime Minister said that provision of gas to fertilizer and textile sectors would be ensured to generate economic activity which will further augment the exports and help in growth of the economy.
The Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to intensify its efforts to exploit the untapped hydrocarbon resources to overcome the growing energy demand of the country.
The Minister for Petroleum apprised the Prime Minister about Tight Gas Policy announced by the Ministry of Petroleum to cater for the needs of the industry.
He said that in 2011-2012, 600 mmcfd gas would be added to system on the completion of ongoing projects in Balochistan that makes about 15% increase in existing gas volumes.
