DG CERN meets PM
ISLAMABAD, June 27 (APP)  - Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday said sharing of scientific and technological knowledge can greatly contribute towards the development of a developing country.He was talking to Dr. Rolf Heuer, Director General of CERN (European Centre for Nuclear Research) who met him on the side-lines of 36th International Nathia Gali Summer College after the inaugural ceremony here at National Centre for Physics.Prime Minister Gilani said forums like the International Nathia Gali Summer College (INSC) serve to break the intellectual isolation of scientists in the developing countries.
Interaction among scientists of advanced and developing countries can greatly enhance South-South cooperation and North-South understanding.
The Prime Minister said prestigious institutions like CERN could contribute towards steering the direction of developing countries in the field of science and technology.
He said Pakistan needs support from the CERN to develop its technology and its application in various sectors to achieve socio-economic progress.
Dr. Rolf Heuer assured the Prime Minister that CERN would extend all possible assistance to Pakistan in developing its scientific institutions and training of scientists.
He also invited the Prime Minister to visit the CERN Headquarters in Geneva to see for himself the contribution of CERN in the development of science and technology as well as sharing of research knowledge with various countries.
