Development of under-developed areas govt priority: Gilani
ISLAMABAD, July 5 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said the primary focus of government was development of less developed areas to bring them at par with other developed parts of the country.Talking to Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani here at the PM House, Gilani said with the completion of devolution process under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, provinces had been empowered.He said more resources were allocated to the provinces in addition to the regular development budget under the Public Sector Development Programme, he added.
The Prime Minister said the government accorded special importance to Balochistan and as promised by him, the next week’s cabinet meeting would be held at Quetta, in an expression of solidarity with the Baloch brethren.
The Prime Minister said all development schemes launched in Balochistan for public welfare would be completed on priority.
He inquired from the Balochistan Chief Minister about the progress of work on completion of Kachi Canal, road infrastructure and dam projects.
He directed that priority be accorded to the on-going projects where more than 50 per cent work has been completed.
The Chief Minister apprised the Prime Minister about the progress of projects initiated under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan.
He informed Gilani about the status of various road infrastructure projects and the pace of work on dams and electricity supply projects. Political and law and order situation of Balochistan was also discussed in the meeting.
Senior Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay, Minister for Finance Mir Mohammad Asim Kurd, Minister for Mines & Minerals Mir Abdul Rehman Mengal and Minister for Health Ainullah Shams were part of the delegation. They also discussed progress of development works in their respective constituencies.
