Sports vital for promotion of national unity; Gilani

       
ISLAMABAD, Nov 11 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said the spirit of national unity and brotherhood exhibited by participants of old cars rally will bring people of four provinces closer.Talking to participants of Old Cars Rally at the PM House, Gilani said such events reflect tolerance, respect for each other and sportsmanship.The old cars rally, comprising vehicles made in between 1927 to 1967, began from Karachi a week ago and concluded in the federal capital.The Prime Minister appreciated the car owners in maintaining the cars and using these for the noble cause of promoting unity among the people of the country.
He said in an atmosphere marked by extremist tendencies such events portray dynamism and unwavering determination of the nation not to yield such evil forces.
The Prime Minister said sports and cultural activities were a means to project the soft image of the country to the world. The government, he maintained, remains committed to encouraging sports to channelize energy of the youth into healthy engagements.
The participants appreciated the Prime Minister for his support to sports activities in the country. They said the patronage by the government for various sports events would help create an enabling environment to develop a tolerant society.
Later the Prime Minister had a look at the old cars and also drove one of the old cars inside the PM House.
