Stable Afghanistan in interest of Pakistan
QUETTA, July 12 (APP)Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said here on Tuesday that stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan.He said that the United States should involve Pakistan in the reconciliation process that it was pursuing in Afghanistan for ensuring peace in the region. Addressing the workers convention of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) at the Governor House, he said that Pakistan desires to have peaceful ties with its neighbours including Iran and Afghanistan as this would provide boost to our economy.Governor of Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Interior Minister Rehman Malik were also present on the occasion.
Gilani said it is in the interest of Pakistan to havepeaceful and thriving Afghanistan .He said adoption of dialogue is the best procedure for resolving problems and,therefore,it is in the interest of Pakistan that the United States should include this country in its reconciliatory process with Afghan dissidents.
He said it would create problems for Pakistan if it did not participate in US-Afghanistan reconciliation dialogue process.
He stressed that PPP led democratic government was pursuing the policy of reconciliation as envisioned by its great leaders because this was in the best interest of Pakistan.
He said “reconciliation should not be considered our weakness”. Gilani urged nationalist leaders to join in the efforts and try to resolve various issues being faced by them through dialogue.
He said the people of Balochistan, youth and political leadership want peace to prevail in the province.
He said the masses of Balochistan had to face hardships because of deterioration of law and order in the province.
He referred to the measures taken by the federal government for welfare of the people of Balochistan.
He said that these included implementation of the Agahz- i- Haqooq Balochistan package, acceptance of demands of Balochistan in the 7th NFC award, empowerment of local masses to their resources.
He said these and other major steps bear testimony to the fact that PPP has fulfilled the pledges it had made with people of the province.
He said that through the induction 18th amendment in the constitution of Pakistan, PPP has brought another achievement to its credit by granting provincial autonomy to all federating units. Earlier, party workers informed Prime Minister Gilani about the problems being faced by them.
