Artists to be given awards during their life time: PM
ISLAMABAD, July 24 (APP) - Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the government fully recognizes the contribution of artists in the fields of art and culture and will ensure that they are given performance awards during their life time. “The present government will do such a thing for the artists, which was never done before,” Gilani said while addressing the 16th PTV Awards ceremony here at the Convention Centre late Saturday night.
The Prime Minister was highly appreciative of Pakistan Television for portraying the country’s soft and positive image at home and abroad through its various programmes including drama, musical shows as well as information and news programmes.
Gilani said Pakistan Television owing to its important contribution in the dissemination of information, promotion of art and culture through healthy entertainment programmes is rightly described as a “family channel”.
He said the PTV does not spread despondency, rather creates hope among the viewers even during the hard times.
The Prime Minister said various renowned artists including singers, actors etc. started their career from PTV and got the fame within the country and abroad.
He said there is no parallel of PTV dramas, which were famous even in India.
Gilani recalled his days of imprisonment and said he used to watch PTV and was very fond of PTV dramas.
