Gilani for convening meeting of CCI to discuss uniform education policy
ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday said a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) would be convened soon to discuss the national education policy.Addressing a gathering of writers and intellectuals here at the PM Secretariat, the prime minister said after the 18th Amendment the Education Ministry has been devolved to the provinces. However in view of the serious internal and external challenges and to strengthen the federation a meeting was being convened to discuss possibility of having a uniform curriculum and syllabus across the country.
Gilani who recently visited the United Kingdom said the matter also came under discussion with the British leaders, who were major donors to the education sector in Pakistan.
He said the meeting of the Chief Ministers will also take into account the deliberations and suggestions put forward during the first session of the “Dialogue with the Nation” so that these are incorporated into the national policy on education.
A uniform curriculum was the major demand that emerged from the forum of writers, who stressed that it needs major revision, with addition of history, writings and works of national poets and writers, and other material that inculcates amongst the young students love for their country and a desire to serve the nation with a commitment and zeal.
