Gilani calls for routing Compensation fund through established institutions
ISLAMABAD, Nov 15 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday urged the United States to route the Compensation Funds for the flood affected through the locally established institutions for timely and prompt disbursement.He was talking to a US delegation led by Ambassador Richard Holbrooke here at the PM House.The Prime Minister apprised the US delegation of his government’s efforts to build consensus and take all stake holders on board on RGST and the economic reforms agenda.He said his government remained committed to press through the economic reform package by addressing the concerns of all political forces in the country.
The Prime Minister welcomed signing of the Wind Power Agreement with Overseas Private Investment Corporation of US guarantees through grant of US $ 150 Million which, he said, would help reduce the present power shortage in the country.
The Prime Minister also hoped that US government would fast track the disbursement of assistance committed under the Kerry - Lugar - Berman Legislation and Coalition Support Fund.
Ambassador Richard Holbrooke said the US administration was working to resume negotiations on bilateral investment trade and was ready to press through the ROZ legislation to prepare these as deliverables during the forthcoming visit of the US President Obama to Pakistan.
He said the US administration was also trying for the passage of Enterprise Fund Legislation through the US Congress for paving the way of increased US investment in Pakistan.
Ambassador Richard Holbrooke praised the democratic government of Pakistan and particularly the Prime Minister’s efforts for pursuing the economic reforms by bringing all the political parties in the Parliament together on this important legislation.
Ambassador Richard Holbrooke stressed that passage and implementation of economic reforms agenda of the Government of Pakistan will convey a significant and positive message to Pakistan’s international partners for helping it at this critical juncture.
Senator Syeda Sughra Imam, Secretaries Foreign Affairs and Defence and senior officers were also present in the meeting.
