No hurdle acceptable in Pak-Iran relations: Gilani

TEHRAN, Sept 12 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday said that no hurdle would be tolerated in enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Iran for which they had decided to put in place a mechanism to facilitate the collaboration between their two peoples.Prime Minister Gilani and Iranian First Vice President Reza Rahimi while addressing a joint press conference here at the President House, said that the negotiations held between their delegations would be of fundamental importance in enhancing the level of cooperation between the two countries.Both the leaders emphasized on the immense potential between the two peoples, the realization of which would prove as a game changer in increasing trade to $10 billion. First Vice President Rahimi said, “the days of the Prime Minister’s visit to Iran are his best days and nights.”
He said Pakistan and Iran are great countries and great neighbours and “we took fundamental steps to improve our relations. Meetings and negotiations which we have undertaken will be recorded in the history of relations of the two countries.”
“We are determined to enhance cooperation to the highest possible level because the current low level of cooperation is to the disadvantage of our two peoples and to the advantage of our common enemy,” he remarked.
Rahimi said they discussed the shared economic interests, common security challenges and extremism and terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime.
Answering a question, Prime Minister Gilani said, “We have proposed to have joint airline so that people can move around and undertake their trade activities within the ambit of agreed framework.”
Answering another question the Prime Minister said that there was a complete unanimity of views on national and international issues between Iran and Pakistan, adding, “Iran is an important neighbour and country.”
The Prime Minister said that the trilateral meeting between Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan would be held in Islamabad where the leaders of the three countries would discuss the issues having direct bearing on the security, stability and development of the region.
Rahimi complemented the Prime Minister by saying that “You are Syed, Yusuf, Raza and Gilani and that Iran is your own home.”
After the meeting the First Vice President hosted a dinner in honour of Prime Minister Gilani and his delegation.
