PM for collaborative work to save younger generation from Lymphoma disease
ISLAMABAD, Sept 15 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has stressed the need for collaborative work and awareness campaign by media to save the country’s younger generation from Lymphoma, a deadly disease that is affecting people between ages of 15 and 35. “Lymphoma is a deadly disease, which is spreading fast around the world especially among the young people. It is a matter of great concern that Lymphoma is affecting people between ages of 15 and 35.”
“This has created a worrying situation for Pakistan as its significant population comprises of this age group. Statistics show that the rate of Lymphoma has increased in Pakistan and it is on the rise. This is a matter of serious concern for all of us as a nation,” the Prime Minister said in his message on the occasion of International Lymphoma Day being observed on September 15 (Thursday).
He said the observance of International Lymphoma Day around the world on September 15 draws our attention to the dangers that the disease poses to human health, and draws our attention to the urgent need of raising public awareness.
“Though the Government of Pakistan has taken various steps to improve the health of Pakistani people, there is, nonetheless, a great need to spread awareness about Lymphoma so that its early diagnosis and treatment can be made possible”, he added.
The Prime Minister said, “with timely diagnosis, the disease can be cured in most cases,” adding, however, “We all need to work collaboratively to save our younger generation from this deadly disease.”
Gilani appreciated the efforts of those organizations that have taken upon themselves the responsibility to create awareness in the people and called upon media and other health care organizations to come forward and take part in the awareness campaign to supplement the government’s efforts to contain the deadly disease.
