No corruption in distribution of flood aid money: Malik
ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (APP): Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the flood relief money is being distributed among the deserving people in a transparent way and the criticism by certain quarters in this regard is baseless. In an interview to BBC the Minister said that the government has launched a huge compensation scheme under which people can withdraw cash aid from local banks using special electronic cards. He said that under the scheme, the government would eventually give more than 85,450 rupees ($1,000, œ631) per household to 1.5 million families who have been directly affected by the disaster.
Malik described the electronic card system as “foolproof”.
He said a number of cases were investigated an in no case the evidence of official corruption was traced.
Some problems occurred but on investigation it was found that the affected people themselves complicated the situation and not the officials, he said.
