Pakistan to take up arms-smuggling issue with Afghanistan: Rehman Malik
ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Tuesday that the weapon smuggling issue would be taken up with Afghanistan as illegally imported arms were being used in terror incidents here in the county. Talking with mediamen outside the Parliament House, he said: “terrorism cannot be countered in a more effective way until and unless smuggling of weapons from Afghanistan is not stopped.” The minister said Pakistan wants support from Afghanistan to eliminate terrorism from the region.
Commenting on the prevailing situation in Karachi, he said the government was committed to restoring peace in the city.
He informed that law enforcement agencies have seized weapons including four suicide jackets, hand grenades and rocket launchers being smuggled to vitiate law and order situation in the city.
He disclosed that the law enforcement agencies have also arrested terrorists who wanted to kill MQM, ANP, PPP leadership and journalists.
To a question he said no operation was going on in Karachi neither the government has any intention to take such initiative.
He said the law enforcement agencies were taking targeted action in the city to improve law and order situation there.
Commenting on the assassination of journalist Wali Babar in Karachi, he said the people involved in this heinous crime would be brought to justice soon.
