Judicial Commission preparing its report on Umer Cheema case, says Rehman Malik

       
ISLAMABAD, Sep 23 (APP): Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Thursday said the Judicial Inquiry Commission was in process of preparing its report of torture against Umer Cheema, a local journalist, who was tortured by some unknown miscreants.Responding to a calling attention notice moved by the Muhammad Barjees Tahir, MNA, during the National Assembly session, the Interior Minister said the report would be presented in the parliament and would also be made public.
He said that he himself condemned the incident and had also assured the journalist and the members of the Lower House of the parliament that all the tools of investigation would be utilized to arrest and access to the real culprits who were involved in this heinous crime.
Malik said he had announced Rs.2.5 million for provision of any related information about the case and the name of the witness would be kept secret.
However, the minister criticized the allegations of Raja Muhammad Asad Khan who alleged that intelligence agencies were involved in this incident.
Malik said that agencies were working for the betterment of the country and they were not involved in such a barbaric act.
On the question of Khalida Mansoor, Rehman Malik said that government has not issued license to any agency to torture general public and Police and agencies are working for the welfare of the country and functioning within the ambit of law.
Rehman Malik also offered to include two parliaments in the probe committee for investigation into the team, who are already working for the inquiry of Cheema case.
Interior Minister also informed the house that the government would provide protection to any journalist who feels threatened.
Please inform me if any journalist receives any threat and he will be provided proper security while his phone calls would also be monitored. We also provided security to Senior Journalist Ansar Abbasi when he reported some threats, he added.
