FIA to submit report on Transparency Int’l within a week: Rehman Malik

       
ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (APP)- Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik said on Sunday that an investigating committee, headed by Director General FIA would submit a report within a week about Transparency International’s recent report regarding corruption in Pakistan.Talking to media-persons during a visit to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Headquarter here, he said the FIA would launch a special campaign after the first week of next month to purge the government departments of corruption.
He said that heads of all public service departments had been directed to hold meetings with their staff before November 7 to eliminate corruption. After that the FIA will launch the drive to end corruption, he said.
He said that he saluted the apex court for taking suo motto action regarding waiver of loans and assured government’s all-out support in this regard. He said he had directed the agency to adopt zero-tolerance policy regarding criminal activities, adding that the process of accountability would start from FIA.
Rehman Malik also asked media to assist law and enforcement agencies in their endeavors to eliminate corruption. He informed that five special (reporting) phone numbers had been allotted to FIA, for lodging complains or passing out information about corrupt elements.  He said that the strength of women staff in FIA would be increased to 25 per cent by the next year. The salaries of FIA employees will be raised as par with Motorway and Islamabad Police, he announced.
He also announced to open Emergency Response Unit with the support of France. The unit will help thwart any possible terrorist activity by providing timely information about that.   
Earlier, FIA Director General Wasim Ahmed and other top officials briefed the minister about the initiatives taken by the agency to check corruption. Malik directed the FIA officials to take strict action against criminal elements.
Besides others, the meeting was attended by high-ups including Additional Home Secretary and Additional DG Anti-Corruption.
