Malik constitutes Committee to probe row between FIA, Customs
ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Minister for Interior,A Rehman Malik on Sunday constituted a high powered Committee to probe the dispute between Pakistan Customs and Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) officials on the issuance of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Clearance Certificates.According to a press release issued here, Additional Secretary Ministry of Interior, Shahid Hameed has been appointed at Chairman of the committee.While among the members including one senior representative of Federal Board of Revenue, Additional Director General FIA Headquarters Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmed and third member will be Vice President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Karachi.
The terms of reference of the Committee will be as under; have any fake FTA Certificates been issued by the Customs authorities ? If so, how many?, how many clients got their goods cleared on alleged fake certificates?, to determine the level of involvement of Appraisement staff of the Customs department. Measures to stop such malpractice in future.
Remedial and re-tributary recommendations/measures against those found responsible for commission of crimes.
The minister has also directed the inquiry committee to visit Customs House, Karachi, conduct the inquiry and submit report within three days.
