Merkel made a “catastrophic mistake” in allowing undocumented migrants to enter the country, US President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday in an interview with The Times newspaper.
“I think she made one very catastrophic mistake and that was taking
all of these illegals, you know, taking all of the people from wherever they come from,” Trump said, adding he had “great respect” for the chancellor.
Hundreds of thousands of migrants entered Germany in 2015 under
Merkel’s open-door policy as the war in Syria triggered an exodus.
