NCSW plans to announce awards for upcoming women writers

ISLAMABAD, Sep 17 (APP): National Commission on the Status
of Women (NCSW) has planned to announce annual awards for the new
and emerging women writers for their outstanding work in any genre
of Urdu literature.
Talking to APP, Chairman NCSW, Khawar Mumtaz said the idea
of announcing awards for new women writers was conceived by the
commission considering the fact that there must be some source of acknowledgment for the work of women writers.
She said the commission will work out on a plan to identify
the outstanding new women writers in collaboration with Oxford
University Press (OUP)’s initiative of Islamabad Literature
Festival and give award to them annually.
The work of the award winning women will be published in
Urdu as well as regional languages of the country, she said.
She said there are many women in the country who have talent
and potential of writing either in form of poetry, stories and
novels but remain unacknowledged, NCSW is trying to give them
a platform to publish and promote their work.
Khawar Mumtaz said the commission will use different mediums
like advertisements and social media to reach out the aspiring women
writers in different corners of the country and promote their work.
She said the commission was pursuing the agenda of reviewing
women policies and carrying out efforts to give women opportunities
to be treated at equal levels.
